Soul for a Hot Dog

How do you connect to people, if they are free to reject, disappoint and betray you? Simple.You make them sign a binding contract.In the dark night of a small town in Sweden, there is a hot dog stand at the crossroads. If its customers can guess the Vendor＇s name, they can get late night fast food: for free! All they have to do is guess the Vendors name. However, the deal has high stakes. If their third guess is wrong, they will owe the Vendor their soul.Tobbe is a young and hungover man who stumbles into the stand, and manages to find a loophole in his deal. Not only does it win him a free meal, but the Vendors approval and an exclusive offer: to become an employee of the stand. Tobbe is intrigued, he feels as though he has caught a glimpse of not just a small business owner, but a person who is very, very lonely (something he himself can relate to as a late twenties trans man in a small town). Setting his heart on breaking the hard shell of the Vendor, he decides to return to observe the business before making any professional decisions.Over the following seven nights we join them at the hot dog stand and together with Tobbe learn about the customers who are willing to risk their souls for just some late night food. What binds them all together is the Vendor, who uses these peoples genuine attempts to reach out to grab a hold on their lives, on the surface offering them comfort, company and support. In actuality he is manipulating and controlling them, all while still keeping everyone at an arms length. Everyone, except Tobbe, who slowly starts to peel away at the grudging surface. But just like the customers, his attempt to connect will eventually come at a price. Because the business that at first glance seems to rely on principle and honouring agreements, turns out to be one mans desperate strive for control. If principles and given words dont provide an advantage, they are worth as much as a hot dog dropped in the dirt. The question is what the Vendor will chose: the safety of manipulation and control, or the risk and intimacy of putting yourself in the hands of someone else.
