Mixed Waste

Four office outcasts accidentally discover a portal into another world inside the workplace basement toilet. They each find a utopian version of themselves and what their life could look like on the other side – yet L feels hopeless: is there no place for them in the entire multiverse? Devastated, L sees the portal discovery as their ticket to finally belonging somewhere. They break the group’s trust and reveal the portal to Corporate. The next day, the group discovers their beautiful parallel world full of very Earthly pollution, as the CEO of their self-proclaimed eco-conscious company claims the perfect solution to climate catastrophe – dumping Earth’s waste in parallel universes.

The outcasts need to work together to close the portal and stop the corporation’s exploitation – and by saving the new world, they might even find a way to save their own. Balancing between the two worlds can be hard: the big questions about the nature of humanity and individuals’ role in collective liberation clash with the small everyday office dramas: participating in cringy trust exercises, investigating who stunk up the microwave with cabbage rolls again, and getting trapped in small talk about Tesla cars during a lunch break.

Ultimately, it’s the outliers with disabilities, nervous shits, and unruly bodies that create the change – those already living on the edge, going against the flow to fight for a better life for themselves and others. It’s the queers, the disabled, the neurodivergent, and the deviants, who will save the world.
