La edad del miedo

I. LUIS (8) and his mother, AURA (40), live in a house in the middle of the countryside. Days after the death of his blind and authoritarian grandmother, ANGUSTIAS (80), the power goes out. Luis thinks his grandmother is among the shadows in the house, as the strange events that begin to occur at that moment can only be her doing.

II. ELENA (15) gets her period the day she moves to a boarding school. She is now a woman, or a witch, as her grandmother would say. Due to the magic she believes she possesses, she imagines her physical changes are radical, and this terrifies her. Everything changes when she begins to attract the attention of her teacher—a man who, she claims, will never hurt her.

III. CRISTINA (18) becomes obsessed with the sudden disappearance of her friends just before leaving for university. The strangest thing is that she is the only one who seems to notice. Her desperation increases when she begins to suspect that the cause lies in the hands of dark silhouettes in the sky.

IV. JAVIER (32) is a young man disappointed with the life he had been promised. Everyone around him shares a happiness that is incomprehensible to him. One summer night, he sees his neighbor commit suicide in the solitude of her home and discovers that, behind the appearance of a spotless world, there is a plague of filthy creatures.

V. AITOR (50) is a surgeon with a clear mind, but it’s not the life he wants. Suddenly, he is a man on the verge of old age. Desperate, he lets a young patient die to take his skin and live what he believes is a second chance.

VI. GREGORIO (80) watches as all his friends die one by one. After suffering a heart attack, he feels he is next, so he desperately tries to find peace. To soothe his torment, GREGORIO resorts to pills that, far from helping him, only bring him anguish, confusion and loneliness.
